Eyes Without a Face series:
The title comes from the Billy Idol song I heard while driving home after I began the eye pennant and curtain/blind series. In the spirit of improv, how could I argue? The quilt cousin artworks have pieced eyes cut from thrifted and constructed quilt blocks and fabrics, reminding me, historically, of comfort and care. The eye shapes also relate to the relief and friendship of feeling “seen”. Contrasting connotations create soft tension– exposure, witness, surveillance, control, protection, alertness, discretion, trust, love. Like The Flamingo’s sang, “I only have eyes for you…” What do you see?
